Ages 6-36 Months

Parent–Tot Swim Lessons
Babies and toddlers 6 months to 36 months learn the joy of being in the water in a safe and nurturing environment with hands on parent involvement. They will be taught the fundamentals of swimming; such as kicking, arm movements, blowing bubbles and floating on their backs and stomachs, with the goal to teach them to swim independently.

Ages 3-5 Years

Pike
Children enter this level with little or no water experience.  The instructor helps the child to develop a sense of comfort and familiarity in the water. Children will learn kicks, arm movements and breath control/blowing bubbles in the Pike level class.

Eel
Children enter this level with a sense of comfort in the water and the ability to swim 10 feet on their front and back.  The instructor helps the child develop a sense of independent movement in the water on their front, back and side. and introduces the child to the core swimmng strokes, Freestyle and Backstroke.

Ray
Children enter this level with the ability to swim 25 feet independently on their front and back.  The instructor introduces the child to the core swimming strokes, Freestyle with side breathing, Backstroke, Breaststroke and Sidestroke.

Ages 6-14 Years

Polliwog
This course is an introduction to basic swimming skills.  Children enter this level with little or no water experience.  The instructor helps the child to develop a comfort in the water and the ability to swim 15 yards using movements without assistance.

Guppy
This course is a continuation for developing basic swimming. Children enter this level with the ability to swim 15 yards on their front and back without assistance. The instructor introduces the child to the core swimmng strokes, Freestyle with side breathing, Backstroke, Breaststroke and Sidestroke with an emphasis on technique and increased distance.

Minnow
This course is an introduction to intermediate swimming skills.  Children enter this level with the ability to swim 25 yards independently on their front and back.  The instructor works with the child to develop strength in the Freestyle, Backstroke, Breaststroke, Elementary Backstroke and Sidestroke.

Fish/Flying Fish/Shark
This course is an introduction to advanced swimming skills.  Children enter this level with the ability to swim Freestyle, Backstroke, Breaststroke, Sidestroke, Elementary Backstroke and Butterfly a distance of 50-100 yards.  Technique and endurance are encouraged in all strokes.

Water Polo

The Chino Valley YMCA is once again offering Youth Water Polo classes for girls and boys ages 9-14.   Classes will cover basic water polo skills, that include treading water, passing, blocking and scoring, as well as, weekly scrimmages. Participants for this class must be able to swim 50 yards of freestyle and tread water for 2 minutes. For more information about days and times see our February Swim Lessons (PDF).

Porpoise Prep Club (Limited Availability)

Porpoise Prep Club is for children ages 6-14 that would prefer a training class over a swim lesson class. Children must be able to swim 100 yds. of Freestyle and Backstroke and 50 yards of Breaststroke and Butterfly. Each child interested in joining the Porpoise Prep Club must set up a try out with Coach Connor. Porpoise Prep Club practices on Saturdays 12:30-1:20 p.m.

Porpoise Swim Club (Limited Availability)

Please read the attached Porpoise Club Parent Information Sheet (PDF). This is a non-competitive swim club for children ages 6-14 that have passed the YMCA Shark swim level or a 200 yard swim test given by the Porpoise Club coach.  The Porpoise Club will focus on building the swimmers endurance and improving their stroke technique, while emphasizing teamwork. Try outs are by appointment only with Coach Robynn.  Practice is Monday-Thursday 6:00-6:50 p.m.

AquaFit Classes

No swimming experience necessary.
Add water to your workout with this aquatic-based class suitable for adults of all ages and fitness levels.  AquaFit is a great way to improve aerobic fitness, develop strength and flexibility with minimal jarring or impact, making it easier on muscles and joints. Lap Swim

Financial Assistance: Financial Assistance is available to assist families who qualify in managing the cost of program fees. Applications can be obtained from all West End YMCA branches.
